Addition to “Types of Data collected”

For the Steplings app only: step count data read from Android Health Connect or from the device’s step counter sensor, subject to the permissions the User grants.

“Health data in the Steplings app”

This section applies only to the Steplings app. Steplings is a step-counting game: the steps you walk each day earn in-app rewards and collectible creatures. To provide this feature, the app accesses health data as described below.

What we access. With your permission, Steplings reads your step count from Android Health Connect. It reads the total number of steps recorded for the current day and the day’s step entries, including when each entry ended and whether it was entered manually rather than recorded by a device. With the physical activity permission, the app also reads your phone’s built-in step counter sensor to update your step count while the app is open, and uses it as the only step source on phones that do not have Health Connect. Steplings reads step count data only. It does not read any other Health Connect data type, and it does not write data to Health Connect.

Why we use it. Step count data is used exclusively to provide the app’s features: showing your daily step count, awarding mystery eggs and step boosters when you reach daily milestones, tracking progress in the Nest, and displaying progress in the app’s notifications, including the ongoing notification shown while a step booster is active. With the background reading permission, the app may read your current day’s step total periodically while it is not open, so rewards and their notifications can be delivered when you reach a milestone.

Where it is stored. Your daily step totals and the rewards earned from them are stored on your device, in the app’s local data, as your game progress. Hive 5 Studio does not operate servers that receive or store this data, and the app does not transmit it to Hive 5 Studio. If you have Android’s automatic app backup enabled, Android may include the app’s local data, which contains your daily step totals, in the encrypted backup of your Google Account and in device-to-device transfers. This backup is managed by Android under your Google Account settings; Hive 5 Studio cannot access it. You can turn app backup off in your device settings.

Sharing and other uses. Your step count and other health data are not shared with third parties and are not used for advertising, marketing, analytics, profiling or any purpose unrelated to the app’s core functionality. The advertising, analytics and attribution services described elsewhere in this policy do not receive your health data.

Your control. You can grant, review or withdraw the app’s access to Health Connect at any time in the Health Connect settings on your device, and withdraw the physical activity permission in your device’s app permission settings. Withdrawing these permissions stops the app from reading step data; because step tracking is the core of the game, its features will not work until access is restored. You can delete the step data stored by the app by clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it. Data held in Health Connect itself is managed in Health Connect.
